Philly Youth Radio Project (PYRP) is seeking 4 youth apprentices to create first person radio essays that explore the causes, consequences, and possible solutions to school bullying and bias-based violence, experienced by so many students across the city.
Under the supervision of a professional audio producer, the apprentices will engage in intensive radio production workshops on April 16th, 23rd, and 30th from 1pm to 5pm. Participants will gain experience in interviewing, field recording, writing for radio, digital editing and voicing. The workshops will take place during Youth Lounge at the Asian Arts Initiative at 1219 Vine Street, Philadelphia, PA 19107. Some additional time may be spent outside workshops to record interviews and gather sound.
The program is completely free. Upon satisfactory completion of the workshop, the youth apprentices each will be provided with a stipend of $100. The program is open to all high school students from 14 to 21 years old. Experience in media, creative writing, and journalism is encouraged, but not required.
Applicants must complete the following application and registration form. The deadline to apply is April 11th.
