Philly Youth Radio at the Youth Media Summit!

By Beth Patel

Last week, Philly Youth Radio was excited to attend the Youth Media Summit, hosted by the Alliance for Community Media in partnership with PhillyCAM, the Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative, and Project Open Voice. I spoke on a panel, “Life Skills, Community Building & Social Impact: The Impact of Youth Media”. We discussed the challenges and upcoming projects.

The Alliance for Community Media decided to launch the first of four youth media summits here in Philadelphia and we are honored that they thought to include Philly Youth Radio.

Lots of media-makers and youth then gathered at PhillyCAM for the Youth Media SLAM, organized by the Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative.

Check out the turn-out!

The SLAM was full of youth media and young people presenting their work. Our own Shayla Torres played her piece, “Mami, Papi & Me”.  You can view all of our most recent pieces here, in the STORIES section of this blog.

In other news, the Philadelphia Youth Media Collaborative has launched its website! PYR has been connected to PYMC since its inception as a member organization. You can check out PYR’s profile on the PYMC website here.

That’s all for now. Thanks to Antoine Haywood of PhillyCAM for the photos. We have big updates coming up so stay tuned!
